Side Effects and Resource Navigation Program for People With Breast Cancer Receiving Immunotherapy

I CARE (Immunotherapy Cutaneous Adverse Events REsearch) - A Trial With Diverse Cancer Patients to Determine the Impact of SDoH and Side Effects Navigation Program on Treatment Continuation

Purpose: To find out whether a navigation program helps people better manage their immunotherapy treatment and everyday essential needs, such as food, transportation, and housing, compared with usual care.

Who is this for?: People with stage I, stage II, stage III, or stage IV breast cancer who are planning to receive or are starting immunotherapy (immune checkpoint inhibitors) as part of their treatment. You must be within a few weeks of starting immunotherapy. You must have at least one essential need, such as food, transportation, or housing. This trial is also enrolling people with other types of cancer. You must be receiving care at a Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center location. View full eligibility criteria

What's involved?

<p class="seamTextPara"> You will be assigned to 1 of 2 groups: </p> <p class="seamTextPara"> <i class="seamTextEmphasis">Group 1</i> </p> <ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">The Immunotherapy CARE navigation program, monthly </li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Staff will help you report side effects and symptoms and connect you with support for essential needs such as food, transportation, and housing</li> </ul> <p class="seamTextPara"> <i class="seamTextEmphasis">Group 2</i> </p> <ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Checkups, tests, and questionnaires, monthly</li></ul>

What's being studied?

<ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">I CARE, a navigation program that is being studied to see if monthly support with reporting side effects and meeting essential needs helps people stay on their immunotherapy treatment and improves their quality of life. </li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Immunotherapy uses the body's own immune system to help fight cancer. In this trial, the immunotherapy is part of your regular treatment, not something the trial provides.</li></ul>
