Talk Therapy to Improve Cancer Distress in People with Metastatic Breast Cancer

Development of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Cancer Distress Among Rural and Urban Patients With Incurable Cancers (ACT-C)

Purpose: To study whether a type of talk therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can help lower cancer related distress and improve quality of life.

Who is this for?: People with metastatic (stage IV) breast cancer who are experiencing cancer related distress. You must reside in Minnesota. This trial is also enrolling people with other types of cancer. View full eligibility criteria

What's involved?

<p class="seamTextPara"> You will receive the following: </p> <ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) group sessions by telehealth (video), 2 hours per week, for 8 weeks</li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Questionnaires</li></ul>

What's being studied?

<ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">This trial is studying Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a type of talk therapy delivered in a group setting by video. </li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">People living with advanced cancer often feel high levels of distress and a lower quality of life. </li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">ACT helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings rather than struggle against them, while staying focused on the things that matter most in their lives.</li></ul>
