Brain Stimulation and Training to Improve Vision for Metastatic Breast Cancer that has Spread to the Brain

Vision Improvement Through Behavioral Rehabilitation And Neuroplasticity Training

Purpose: To study whether transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) plus learning-based training can improve vision.

Who is this for?: People with metastatic (stage IV) breast cancer that has spread to the brain (brain metastasis) and who are experiencing vision loss due to brain metastases. View full eligibility criteria

What's involved?

<p class="seamTextPara"> You will be randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups: </p> <p class="seamTextPara"> <i class="seamTextEmphasis">Group 1: Experimental</i> </p> <ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS), three 18-minute sessions per day for 2 days</li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Perceptual learning-based training</li> </ul> <p class="seamTextPara"> followed by: </p> <ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Sham stimulation, three 18-minute sessions per day for 2 days</li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Perceptual learning-based training</li> </ul> <p class="seamTextPara"> <i class="seamTextEmphasis">Group 2: Control</i> </p> <ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Sham stimulation, three 18-minute sessions per day for 2 days</li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Perceptual learning-based training</li> </ul> <p class="seamTextPara"> followed by: </p> <ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS), three 18-minute sessions per day for 2 days</li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Perceptual learning-based training</li></ul>

<ul class="seamTextUnorderedList"> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) is a noninvasive brain stimulation technique for improving vision by targeting the regions of the brain responsible for vision.</li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">Perceptual learning-based training is a task in which the person judges the direction of moving dots.</li> <li class="seamTextUnorderedListItem">This trial is also enrolling healthy people as controls.</li></ul>
